Layer up for a Cambridge in February
The average weather in Cambridge during February is a low of 2 degrees with a high of 9 degrees Celsius. Although this is not as cold as in earlier months, you should still layer up if punting in Cambridge. If you are coming for a day trip from London – you may very well feel the drop in temperature. Even though it’s less than an hour away, because London is extremely built up, the city centre is well blocked from the wind. Prepare for a colder experience! Cambridge in February is not to be underestimated. Optimise your Cambridge visit by choosing the best clothes for the time of year. You should keep the following things in mind if you plan to visit Cambridge in February…
Coats and Jackets
English weather is very unpredictable. You never know when a random shower might surprise you whilst punting in Cambridge. Fear not – our tours come with umbrellas and blankets in colder months. But, I’m afraid we cannot let you take them away with you after your tour. Be sure to have an umbrella on hand for the entirety of your Cambridge visit.
When packing a coat, you should ensure that it is waterproof. A fleece lining also helps to keep you toasty – come rain or shine.
If out on a punting tour – you’ll want to focus on the beautiful scenery rather than your goosebumps.
Woolly Hats
When punting in Cambridge, a woolly hat in February can be a lifesaver to keep your ears warm.
Perhaps you may be interested in purchasing a hat from a local Cambridge shop. Check the Cambridge Market, or Jacks on Trinity.
Scarves and Gloves
Scarves are always fashionable, no matter what season. Wearing a scarf to cover your mouth and neck ensures better insulation. Pair that with a fluffy hat, hardly any of your head will be exposed to the elements.
Gloves are also a must. If you are opting for self-hire punting in February, pushing the pole with bare hands soaked in river water is a recipe for the chills. Many gloves are designed to be used on smartphones and camera touchscreens, which is beneficial because you will want to take plenty of photos during your punting tour!
The Right Footwear
Even though the predicted temperature is not below freezing, parts of England do experience snowfall in February.
Consider footwear that would be useful with icy pavements. And considering it’s Cambridge, choose footwear for comfortably exploring cobbled stone streets.
